GENERAL TELEGRAMS

AN INDIGNANT LABORITE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, Tuesday. Mr. Pagan, secretary of the Inangahua Miners' Union, interviewed by the Star, expressed disgust at the refusal of the Crown Law officers to prosecute for a lock-out in the mining trouble, and prophesied, under the circumstances, a protracted struggle. EXCESSIVE HOSPITAL EXPENDITURE. Eketahuna, Tuesday. At the Borough Council meeting last night, the following resolution was carried:—That the council protests against the large increase in the levy for hospital and charitable aid in the Wairarapa for 1912-13, and complains of the large sums being spent on land, buildings, and other things in Masterton and Grey town, that are unnecessary while other contributing districts are deprived of any hospital accommodation whatever, and that an appeal be made to the Minister." The Mayor stated that the levy was 60 to 70 per cent, above that of last. It was unreasonably large, and many items called for severe comment. UNION SECRETARY FINED. Auckland, Tuesday.
