WANGANUT SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Monday. The Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr. Justice Cooper, in his address to the jury, congratulated the district on the practical absence of crime, there being only two criminal cases. The grand jury returned true bills against Nicholas Joseph Winders on a charge of misapplication of insurance moneys, and Joseph Moore on a charge of theft from the person. Wanganui, Last Night. The Supreme Court sessions opened this morning before Mr. Justice Cooper, who, in his address to the grand jury, congratulated the district on the absence of crime, only two criminal cases being set down for hearing. Joseph Moore was found not guilty of theft from the person. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. Auckland, Monday. Before the Supreme Court a Maori named Taheroro Tamata, on a charge of rape at Tauranga, was sentenced to ten years' hard labor. Annie Strange, convicted of procuring abortion, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment. A decree nisi was granted in Thomas William Lindsay v. Amy Lindsay and George Hansen, co-respondent.
