A VETERAN'S DEATH.

Bj Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. The body of an old age pensioner named John Gubbins was found in a shed near Westerfield yesterday. The deceased had been a gold digger all his life. At the inquest to-day the evidence went to show that he was on his way back to the Otago goldfields last month. Medical evidence gave the cause of death as exhaustion, and stated that it occurred fully a fortnight ago. The coroner's verdict wa3 returned accordingly.

A FATAL SHORT CUT,

Auckland, Monday. The dismembered body found on the railway line near the Parnell tunnel has been identified as being that of a young man named Percy Flewellyn Cartwright, who had been missing since Friday night, when lie left his brother's residence to visit his married sister at Parnell, probably using the railway line as a short cut. At the inquest an open verdict was returned.

LYSOL POISONING

Auckland, Monday. Another case of poisoning by lysol was added to the already lengthy list yesterday, when a baker named John Robinson, forty years of age, swallowed half the contents of a bottle. Robinson was separated from his wife about four weeks ago, and is stated by the police to have been drinking 'heavily since. lie was moved to the hospital about 8.20 p.m. in an unconscious condition. Subsequently he partially recovered consciousness, and at noon to-day he was somewhat better. His son'stated to the police that on a previous occasion it had been necessary to take a bottle of lysol from his father.
