GIRL SCOUT'S PROMPTITUDE
SAVES A LIFE. Auckland, Tuesday. A striking instance of the value of the excellent training the Girl Peace Scouts are receiving was shown a few days ago at Oneliiiuga. A lady asked one of the girls to go at once lor a doctor, as her son had cut his hand very severely. Before starting, the girl said she would look at the wound. Seeing at once that it was a serious case, she hastily glanced round the room and then snatched a reel of cotton off the table, made it into a pad with soft material, and bound the hand in the orthodox manner taught by Inspector Cunningham. Then the girl ran for the doctor, and on his arrival he complimented her very highly on the skill and promptitude shown, and told the parents that she had undoubtedly saved their son's life, as another five minutes' delay would perhaps have been fatal. The grateful parents, wishing to show their appreciation in a practical manner, tried to persuade the scout to accept some reward, but she firmly refused, saying she had only done her duty.
