DEATH FROM MISADVENTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. Lydia Earnestina Vassallo, a single woman, aged 29, died this morning as the result of drinking spirits of salts in mistake for medicine. Auckland, Last Night. At the inquest on Lydia Vassallo, who died at her brother's residence this morning, the Coroner, addressing the jury, said that death was plainly due to misadventure, as deceased had endeavored to counteract the effects of spirits of salts by taking milk as an antidote. A verdict was returned that death was due to misadventure. A LONG SLEEP. Hastings, Thursday. Charles King, aged about 21 years, employed as porter at the Stortford Lodge Hotel, who is said to have been suffering from insomnia, took a sleeping draught when retiring on Monday night. All efforts to awaken him on Tuesday were futile, and a doctor ordered his removal to a private hospital, where he died last evening, without regaining consciousness. FATAL TAXI-CAB ACCIDENT. Auckland, Thursday. A taxi-cab, driven by William Curtis, and containing four others, collided with a tram-car at Epsom. late last night. Thomas Noonan, a single man. aged 25, a resident of Parnell, and Ered Cole were seriously injured. The collision was caused by a wheel of the motor skidding. The tram caught the back wheel of the motor and wrenched the lower part of the motor car away. Noonan received shocking injuries to his head, and was extricated with difficulty from the debris. He died almost immediately. Cole had his thigh injured, and was' conveyed to the hospital. The motor car is practically ruined. Auckland, Last Kight. An inquest on the body of Thomas Joseph Nooiian, who was killed in a motor accident last night, was opened to-day, and after evidence of identification "was adjourned till May 31.
