A GRAND JURY'S RECOMMENDATION. Auckland, Tuesday. Although the criminal calendar of oases set down for hearing at the Supreme Court this session is comparatively light, the fact that a fair proportion of the cases comprise assaults- on children made a strong impression on the Grand Jury, which handed to Judge Sim the following presentment this evening:— ''The Grand Jury view with the greatest alann the many charges for offences against young children, and would respectfully- bring under the notice of your Honor the necessity of most severe punishment being meted out to the offenders, either I>y long severe reformative sentences in the case of degenerates or by ordering the lash in eases of a wilful character."
