CIVIL SITTING. Sitting in ]ii s civil jurisdiction at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morniii", Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., gave judgment for the plaintiffs, by defauJt, in the following undefended eases:—!'. R. Julian v. Toko Tukotahi, for balance of £5, costs £1 15s (id; T. R. Julian v. Herei I'aora, XI3 13s Ud ; costs £2 3s Gd; Ernest Elliot v. Fred Healy, for balance of £ll 10s, costs £1 17s (id; J. ]). Arthur v. Thomas Percy Smith, £lO 17s 3d, costs £1 10s (id. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. la a judgment summons case, Te Atua was asked to show cause why he was not able to pay a debt of XI I/is. owing to A. George. The defendant, who is employed by a local firm of wine and spirit merchants, said his wages were £2 per week, and in addition to himself he, bad a wife and the five children of bis former wife to maintain. He did not have to pay any.rent. Crossexamined, he admitted 'that he could have paid if he had cared to. His Worship made an order for payment within seven days, with the option* of two (lavs' imprisonment. SALB OF A HOUSE. Thomas Campbell, who did not appear. ' proceeded against Frank Sampson, of Sentry Hill, for the sum of £2. Mr. Ifutclien appeared for the defendant, who said that early last year he had sold the plaintiff a horse for £;">. Campbell paid him £3 down. Subsequently, owing to the mare being nearly ruined in an accident, plaintiff authorised defendant to sell the animal. Sampson accordingly sold the horse for £2. which he detained in settlement of the balance owing to him on his original sale to Campbell. The plaintiff, however, now claimed that amount. Judgment was given for the defendant, with costs amounting to £2 0s 6d.
