ST. AUBYN TOWN BOARD

A meeting of the St. Aubyn Town Board was held on May 14, the chairman (Mr. G. E. Blanchard) presiding. Messrs. F. Hodson and E. I. Bullot wer# also present. Correspondence was read: From the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, asking if any memorial to King Edward VIT. had been erected; from th« town clerk, re extraordinary traffic on borough streets; from the Taranakj Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, r« monthly contribution; from the Regis-trar-General's office, re annual subsidies; from the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, re Defence Act; from ths Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, r« a-ssets and liabilities, county and town board; from the foreman of roads, report for April. The foreman stated that lie had been engaged with the usual work attached to keeping the roads in order, and had repaired the Belt road bridge breastwork with timber. On May 10 Parkins had commenced carting metal to the South road, and finished on May 26. Mr. J. C. Davics had requested a better entrance to his land on Devoa road. It was resolved that the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board should be paid a monthly contribution of £3 5s Id; also that the Board fully endorses the resolution passed by th® Palmerston Chamber of Commerce, r« the Defence Act. The chairman gave notice that at a special meeting to be 'held on May 28 he would move that a general rate of l 1 in the £, and a hospital and charitable aid rate of l-10d in the £ on the capital value of a!l rateable property in the St. Aubyn Town District, be struck for the year ending March 31, 1913. The clerk had forwarded the annual statistics to the Government Statistician, and had also replied that no memorial had been erected to King Edward VII.
