f FURTHER FINES. By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. Further betting raid cases were dealt\ with to-day. The hearing of the charge: against John Ryan, that, being the occupier of a billiard room in Vulean Lane he received moneys as bets and kept premises for the purpose of betting, was continued. After lengthy argument and I evidence the Magistrate said that had decided to convict. The amount of I the fine was not to be taken as showing I that Ryan was less guilty than others. IHe was making allowance for Ryan's poorer circumstances, and for the fact | that lie would suffer very serious loss through the almost certain loss of his I billiard license. A fine of £SO and costs was inflicted. On a charge of keeping a gaming house and on a charge of making bets Ryan was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Four persons for being found on the ■premises were fined £1 each. Fred Williams and Charles Darcy, two reputed bookmakers, who pleaded guilty, were fined £25 each, with costs.
