VICTORIA DEFEATS NEW SOUTH WALES. By CaWe—Press Association—Oopyright Beeeived 9, 11.18 p.m. Sydney, April 9. At bowls Victoria beat New South Wales in two games. The third game had to be abandoned owing to rain. THE TARANAKI BANNER. On Saturday Hawera (winners of the southern banner contest) defeated Pihama (winners of the western contest), at Hawera, by 57 points to 52. It was an interesting game, the issue being indoubt right up to the two last heads. Hawera and New Plymouth play off for 'the championship at Stratford to-day, if the weather is favorable. On Monday S. John's (Wanganui) played a match with Hawera. In the morning the result of the 21 heads gave a. lead to Hawera by 85 to 75, which was increased by eleven in the afternoon, the scores being 77 to 66.
