| TAEATA. j (Iron Our Own Correspondent.) i It will be remembered that two gold I medals were offered by the Stratford A. and P. Association for the best essays on the last show. These were for competition among the children attending the Taranaki schools, one for those schools with a roll of 250 or over, and the other for those below that number. The medal for the smaller schools was won by Master Dugald Paterson, of Tarata. .When this was known, the School Committee decided to make the presentation publicly, and this was done on Saturday last, at a very pleasant little reunion at the school. Invitations were issued to the parents and children ati tending the school, who met at two •'clock. A very pleasant hour was , passed in games, after which all assembled in the school. Short addresses J were given by the chairman (Mr. F. M. Standish) and teacher (Mr. Templar), after which Mrs. Standish, with a few' appropriate words, presented the medal and accompanying certificate to Master Paterson, who briefly returned thanks. Mr. E, Paterson, senr., also returned thanks on behalf of himself and family to the committee, the teacher and the , donors of the medal. Afternoon tea was then distributed by the ladies and fittingly closed a very pleasant ceremony. The medal, which was greatly admired, is a Maltese cross, bearing the figure of a schoolboy writing at his desk, with the words, on the reverse, "Presented by J. MeCluggage, Esq., to Dugald Paterson for the best essay on the Stratford Show, 1911."
