The scheme is likely to lower the levels of the canals on the St. Lawrence River route, and gravely interfere with Canadian shipping. FATAL DERAILMENT CAUSED BY LANDSLIDE. New York, March 25. At Sandpoint, Idaho, a freight train of sixty cars struck a rock-slide on the Great Northern. The engine rolled over the embankment and three, cars were wrecked. The engine-driver, fireman and bra'keman were killed. A huge quantiy of rock had been loosened during excavation work and collapsed, completely blocking the line. MISSIONARY KILLED BY ROBBER. Pekiri, March 25. Robbers at Sdechuan killed an American clergyman named Hicks and wounded two of his companions, Hoffmann and Sheldon. Their boat was also looted. MOTHER AND CHILDREN BURNED. London, March 25. A block of tenements at Dartmouth was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Maud Callard' and three of her children being burned te death, while a fourth child was thrown from a window and grievously injured. Mrs. Ash carried her mother and Mr. Callard, who were unconscious, safely out of the building. FIRE IN A ZOO. London, March 25. A fire in a large shed at Kennington suffocated ten trained baboons, one mandrill and two performing dogs.
