FIRES.
A RESIDENCE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Preee Awociation. Wanganui, Last Night. Mr. E. Gould's six-roomed residence at Wanganui East was destroyed by fire this afternoon. A BLOCK OF BUILDINGS DESTROYED. Taihape, Monday. Just before midnight on Saturday a fire broke out in the block of buildings opposite the Post Office at Raetihi, resulting in the destruction of the premises occupied by Loveday and Co., drapers, ■ Stubbs, ironmonger, Bennett's tea-rooms, Booth's billiard room, and Goodyer"s livery stables. The brigade was unable to use the engine owing to short water supply, but excellent service was rendered by a bucket brigade, by which the adjoining block was saved., A large amount of Love-day's stock and most of Stubbs' was saved, also the contents of the stables. The in'sir.anc'ns are not available.
