SHORTAGE OF UNSKILLED LABOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. The various works at .present in progress in Gisborne have practically absorbed the available supply of unskilled labor, and there is an unsatisfied demand for navvies, stc. AN OCEAN RACE. Wanganui, Last Night. The Maroro and Alexa, both threemasted vessels, have had an interesting race to Sydney and back. They left here within a few hours of each other, and both reached port again on the same tide this afternoon. TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION BOARD. Wellington, Last Night. Voting papers in connection with the triennial election of the members of the Teachers' Superannuation Board were opened to-day. Four members were required, two to be elected by contributors resident in the North Island, and two by contributors resident in the South Island. The retiring members were:— North Island, W. T. Grundy (Wellington), and W. H. Foster (Petone); South Island, William Davidson (Mornington) and Jas. A. Valentin* (Timaru). There were candidates for re-election. Other candidates were: 11. G. Cousins (Auckland)- and A. Bcnge (Waihi) for the North Island, and E! V. Just (Lyttelton) for the South Island. The voting rej suited in the return of Grundy and Cou- | sins for the North Island, and the reelection of Davidson and Valentine for the South Island.
