WORK AND WAGES.
WATERSIDE WORKERS' DEMANDS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Although the Bluff Waterside Workers' Union obtained a new award as late as last December., there still seems to be considerable dissatisfaction existing among the men with regard to wages and conditions. A fresh demand has been framed, and was presented to the employers this afternoon. Representatives of the union and employers met in conference at the Trades Hall to discuss the situation. The union delegates .wished the proceedings to be fully reported, and asked that the press be permitted to remain. This course was strenuously opposed by the employers, on the grounds that it was a private conference and .that it would not be politic to publish the details of such a conference. A deadlock was threatened, but the reporter saved the situation by retiring.
