ENTERTAINMENTS

JOSEPH BLASCHECK. This popular entertainer introduces a delightfully novel entertainment which he entitles "Society Snapshots;" At the Theatre Royal next Tuesday, March 19, he presents a series of character studies and impersonations quite unique in their remarkable truth to nature. Mr. Blascheek brings with him Miss Mildred' Wrighton, a lady who, as an entertainer, has probably been in greater demand in London than any artist of recent years. She is an accomplished musician, both _ as an instrumentalist and a 1 vocalist, and her famous "songs at the piano" were the success of last season in_ the great metropolis. An eminent critic, in writng about "Society Snapshots," said: "There is something quite distinctive about t-hu, entertainment, and what that distinction is it is more easy to appreciate than define, but the impression which these two wonderfully gifted people made upon me is one never to be forgotten. They provide us with an entertainment which not only contains good music, but music without monotony, and followed by a feast of humor and variety, and that is why a thankful and delighted public punctuate every item on, the programme by enthusiastic applause, applause that is a genuine expression of their appreciation for an eVeninsfs enjoyment. The box plan opens at Collier's on Wednesday.

THE EMPIRE PICTURES. There was another crowded house at' the Empire Theatre last night to view the magnificent programme that is now being screened. The gem of the programme is undoubtedly "Winter in Finland." This is a particularly artistic production, and its beauty entrances the observer. Indeed, manv who saw it on Saturday came again last night. Tonight the programme will be 1 repeated for the last time. .To-morrow night is the -usual change night, but it should prove more than of ordinary interest to loesjl residents, for they will have <in opportunity of observing at close range the soenic beauties and wonders of Taranaki's popular tbiirisfc resort, Mt. Egmont. is a -beautifiilly tone picture, and should do much to advertise Taranaki when it is screened, as it will be, throughout the world. „

VON ARX. Tt was but a fair house that greeted Von Arx at the Theatre Royal Ipfet, night. _ The entertainment was certainly deserving of better patronage, Von Arx proving himself to be a past master in the necromantic art. His illusions were very clever, as were his sleight-of-hand tricks. George Murphy, a talkative comedy juggler, appealed to the audience immensely, and his elpver work was fully appreciated. Mr. P. Shaw has a fine tenor voice and this he used with good effect in both sentimental and humorous items. Miss Pearle Nellnotte was very captivating in her serio items being encored for her efforts.
