RAILWAY IMPROVEMENTS.

PARNELL TUNNEL DUPLICATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. The Hon. J. A. Millar states that he' has completed the preliminary work* for the removal of the engine sheds l at the Auckland railway station to. Newmarket. This'necessitates duplication of the Parnell railway tunnel. The Minister states it is now within measurable distance. The sum of £BO,OOO has been authorised for the combined work.

CONGESTION AT PALMERSTON. Palmerston N., Friday. The Minister for Railways announced to a deputation yesterday that plans were in preparation for extensive alterations to the Palmerston railway station. The congestion of traffic has been serious during the last few years, and representations were made by the Chamber of Commerce. The Hon, Mr. Millar says the alterations will include an island platform in the centre of the railway yards, to be connected with the present platform by overhead bridges, also additional buildings' ejected at the western end of the present station.

RAILING STOCK FOB, AGRICULTURAL SHOWS. Cambridge. Last Night. A well attended meeting of stock breeders and exhibitors was held yesterday, Mr. John Fisher, president of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association, being in the chair, to consider matters in connection vitli better and f»< ;f ,er train arrangements for stock intended for exhibition at agricultural shows and reciprocal entries between the members of agricultural societies. This was.the outcome of an action taken by the Manawatu Agricultural Association. Mr. Perry, secretary, addressed the gathering, lucidly explaining both propositions and showing.the benefits contained. The meeting warmly supported both matters, and adopted resolutions to give effect thereto. The Auckland, Frankton, Hamilton and Cambridge Societies were urged to appoint committees to act in conjunction with the Manawatu Association on the railway question. The Waikato • Central Agricultural .Association's annual show opened to-day.
