STRATFORD FIRE BRIGADE

The Stratford Fire Brigade will hold a series of competitions on Thursday afternopn. Three trophies are to be competed for: The Burgess Cup, the Bishara Cup and Messrs. Hallenstein Bros.' trophy. For the first two the competitions •willj be "carry-gear" eyents ; a "clry" com-, petition for the Burgess Cup. and a "dry" one for the Bisihara Cup; while for the Hallenstoin trophy there will be a oneman coupling event.

■First-Foreman T. A. Wilson has been elected to represent the brigade at the United Fire Brigade Association's annual conference at Rotorua. Amongst other business entrusted to him is the making of an application for the award of the. gold star to ex-Captain H. Kivell, of the Stratford Brigade, to mark the completion of 25 years' service. Mr. Kivell was captain of the local brigade for a number of years, and saw it grow from small beginnings to a well-equipped and efficient institution.
