THE TERRITORIALS
The officers in charge of the Territorial movement have had their patience and forbearance fully tested by a few men, scattered over the whole district, who have not attended p'arades. As Sergeant-Major Dallinger remarked in conversation to-day, there are two kinds of absence from parades. These are absence with leave and absence without leave. The latter is not permissible, and is punishable. Men .who have absented themselves ' from parade without leave are to be given an opportunity of making an explanation. Should sufficient excuse not be forthcoming these men will be prosecuted. From what can be gathered, it seems that the officers are not at all strict in the matter of attendance, not insisting that a man shall attend at all costs. But pressing, business engagements, or even important social engagements, if- represented to the officer in command, will secure exemption from drill. The latter excuse is not allowed to be ridden to death, of course.
