Following is the High Commissioner's cablegram under date London, February 10 (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Mutton.—The market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. Buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases at present prices. North Island 4d, Australian River Plate 3%d. Lamb.—.The market is steady, with very good demand. Other than Canterbury oy 2 d, Australian 4»/,d, River Plate 4%d. Beef.—The market is quiet. Quotatations for.New Zealand (nominal prices) slightly declined for all grades. Butter.—The market is firm" arid likely to remain so for some time. There is good demand. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand butter was 1325, Australian 1295, Argentina 1295, Danish 1365, Siberian 130s. .
Cheese.—The market is quiet but firm; white 725, colored 71s 6d. Hemp.—The market is quiet and little doing, but a good feeling prevails. New Zealand good fair grade on spot £2l ss, New Zealand fair grade on spot £2O ss, fair current Manila £2l os. Forward shipment New Zealand good fair £2l 10s, Manila £22. The output from Manila for the week was 33,000 bales. The stock of New Zealand hemp is 401 tons. ' Wheat.—There is more demand, but holders are firm. New Zealand longberried wheat, on spot ex granary (per quarter of 4961b), 37s 6d, short-berried 375, small supply. Oats.—-The supply is practically exhausted. New Zealand oats, short sparrowbills on spot ex granary (per quarter of 3841b) 26s 6d, Danish (per quarter of 3201b) 235; quotations nominal. Beans,—The market is firm, owing to reduced supplies. New Zealand beans f.a.q., old crop (per 5041b), 395. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is very firm, and there are light stocks on hand. New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing I7lb per bushel, per cwt. on spot, 76a. Mutton and Lamb.—River Plate shipments received during January, 1912: London, 107,751 carcases mutton, 5291 carcases lamb; Liverpool, 94,213 carcases mutton, 44,216 carcases lamb; Hull, 12,349 carcases mutton, 1414 carcases lamb; Southampton, 9046 carcases, mutton, 91,15 carcases lamb; Cardiff, 5611 carcases mutton; Newcastle, 14.000 carcases mutton, 1500 carcases lamb; total, 242,860 carcases mutton, 61,536 carcases lamb; January, 1911, 221,815 carcases mutton, 103,677 carcases lamb.
