WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. (>rom Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the aboYe board, there were present: Mr. J. Connett (chairman), Messrs. French, Hall, Surrey and Turnbull. Correspondence was read from Mr. S. Sarten, Btating that Mr. Honnor and himself were still agreeable to raise a loan for metalling the hill from Huirangi to the Waitara bridge, although no Government, grant had been obtained, and those who had promised donations towards" same would also given the amounte promised; from Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, stating that on a resurvey, of section 86 being made it was found that the present bridge and approaches, on the Corbett road, over the Mangaoraka stream were within the boundaries of the said section, and requesting the board to notify the office if they intended taking any action in the matter; from Mr. F. Wilson, solicitor, re same, suggesting that as the bridge was under the control of the County Council, it would be as well to apply for the issue of a proclamation order, in conjunction with them, if it was considered desirable to take the land.
The chairman reported that Mr. French, the clerk and himself had met a committee of. the Moa Road Board, and had arranged with them that this board should contribute half cost of maintenance of the Davis road, such amount not to exceed two-thirds of the rates contributed by those interested in this district, but that it should not be necessary to expend the said two-thirds each year. It was also agreed that a copy of the above be drawn up by the Moa Road Board, embodying the proposals, and submitted to this board for their approval.
The chairman also reported that Mr. H. George would be unable to undertake the supervision of repairs to the Mangawera bridge on the Manutahi east road for at least two months.-—lt was resolved that the said bridge be repaired with hard wood and concrete pier and wings, and that Mr. George's services be obtained if possible to supervise mm*.
Mr. H. B. Lepper attended the meeting and requested that the factory road be repaired, and it was decided that the board pay half cost of same as on previous occasions.
The Department of Lands and Survey and the Taranaki County Council to be informed that this hoard does not propose to take any action at present with regard to bridge and approaches on Corbett road, being on private property. Surfaceman Giddy reported that he had been engaged spreading for Haskell and Co. on Te Arei road for four days; three and a half days on Brown road, and dive days on Wortley road, most of the metal being used for re-coating. Messrs. Johnson and Jenkins had completed their Ackworth road contract. Surfaceman Palmer reported that the deviation on Kelly road had been repaired, and that stones had been placed at side 'of metal on hills of same road to protect the water-tables. Haskell and Co. had finished the Waitara road contract, which they had taken over from E. Richards, and had delivered 56 yards of metal, which had been used for repairs.
It was decided that the members of the board inspect the Karaka road where it is proposed to lay down metal, and that Mr. Sarten be invited to meet them.
Mr. French will inspect the damaged wooden culvert on the Waitara end of the Karaka road, and report at next meeting as to repairs required. Accounts amounting to £lO2 were passed for payment.
