The sugar crop in New South Wales and Queensland is considerably below the estimate, being in New South Wales 16,700 tons and in Queensland 163,637 tons. Largely increased imports will be necessary. As the result of having the bounty and the increased Customs duty, the net gain to the Treasury is £ 149,000.
