Senator Gonzales, Minister for the Interior, while visiting Chichuahua in order to pacify the rebels, was cut off through bridges having been burned and trains being unable to return. Gonzales .had a narrow escape from capture, but the conductor of the hand-car on which he travelled hid him when the car was overtaken by the rebels, and a detachment arriving by a relief train finally rescued him.
