CANADA'S TARIFF.

PLANS FOR COMMISSION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Ottawa, February 9. The Government plans for the tariff commission have been explained to Parliament. The duties of the commission include gathering information regarding the production, transportation and prices of goods at home and abroad. Information may be secured upon oath, with the right of inspection of the books of any concern. Every effort will be made to exclude politics from the commission when in operation. Should the Government find that trusts exist in Canada the Commission will be ordered to report whether the remedy lies in the reduction of existing duties. Tariff relations with other countries will be specially studied. The Liberals oppose the scheme, as substituting government by commission for government by tho people.
