WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY
THE AUSTRALIAN SCHEME. 6y Cable—Pros Association—Copyright Melbourne, February 10. jThe Governor-General opened the wireless station. Lord Denman despatched a message to Admiral King-Hall on the Drake at Hobart, also to the Governor of Tasmania. Mr. Fisher declared it was the first link in the chain which eventually would encircle Australia. Mr. Fraser, Postmaster-General, said he recognised that Australia was behind the times, but he had been beset with difficulties, of which he was not yet clear. The Government had, however, determined to push the scheme to its completion, and if it was found they were infringing anyone's rights they were prepared to pay reasonably. He hoped the station at Hobart would be ready in five weeks, and those at Thursday Island and Port Moresby by the end of the financial year.
