HOOLEY GAOLED

A MILD PUNISHMENT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 12, 12.10 a.m. London, February 11. E. T. Hooley, has been sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. Hooley's defence urged that the charges on Riseley Hall were not ordinary mortgages, since they did not restrict his power to sell. The jury were 25 minutes considering their verdict. Mr. Justice Phillmore agreed with the verdict, and said that Hooley was possibly not alone blameworthy for young Tweedale losing £27,000 in'a year and a half and becoming liable for a further £IO,OOO. Nevertheless the offence was serious enough to have had him sentenced in the second division. Hooley was unmoved, and did not reply-
