CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
<m YESTERDAY'S DOINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Congregational Union of New Zealand was continued to-day. Papers were read by Rev. B. N. Thomas (Nelson) on organisation of Congregationalism in the Dominion; by Rev. A. Perkins (for Rev. W. J. L. Clogs, of Christchurch), on organisation of Congregationalism in the city; and by Rev. R. Mitchell, on the call of a new country, the Christian Church's opportunity and responsibility. The appointment of Rev. W. M. Triggs to Mangawai was ratified. It was decided to appoint Mr. J. G. Gibson to the vacant charge in the Auckland district. Notices of motion were given as follows:—Rev. C. A. Lyon, of New 1 Lynn, "That this Council rejoices in the result of the first Dominion Prohibition poll, giving a majority of more than 60,000 Wotes for Prohibition. At the same time it views with alarm the steady growth for some years past of intemperance among young New Z'ealanders, and recognises the urgent need for renewed energy in the work of educating our young people in regard to the scientific and economic aspects of the question, and a vigorous pledge crusade among young men as to the best means of preparing for the next election." —Referred" to the Eerefence Committee. Mr. A. T. Lee, "That the Board of Studies be requested' to consider the status of the Homo Missionary and bring a report before the Council." —Referred to. the Reference Committee. It was decided to leave the appointment of (telegatcs to the triennial assembly of Australasia, to be held at Adelaide in April, 1913, to the Executive Committee.
