ANOTHER STRIKE THREATENED

J A conference took place to-day between representatives of the employees of the Wellington Meat Export Company and the Gear Meat Company and employers, to consider matters in dispute. The Hon. O. M. Luke, M.L.C., presided. ' The men are objecting to hours worked, 3 and seek to minimise this, 'by insisting • that overtime rates should be paid beyond an eight hours' day. The union • directly concerned is one that has com* into existence, since the small trouble among assistants at the Wellington Meat Export Company's yards at Ngahaui ranga. Its title so far is "The Freezing > Workers' Union." After a discussion > lasting the greater part of the day th« 1 men offered to compromise on time and 1 a quarter for overtime.
