■«■». A BOY'S GALLANT ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. Ernest Vernon Sweet, storeman, 35 years of age, single, was drowned this afternoon. Deceased was bathing off the* Waikanae beach ami, it being low tide, got out 'beyond the breakers, when the strong undertow carried him out of his depth. A boy named Douglas Menzies, notic-, ing his predicament, swam out and got hold of Sweot, but owing to the heavy sea, when bringing him in, he had to leave go, and Sweet disappeared and waa never seen again. The body, has not been recovered.
