ACTIVITY'' AT NO. 5. . . ' At No. 5 bore good. progress has been made with drilling and the. bore is now down to a depth of 2180 ft. Last night gas was in evidence at the bore, and the drill may pierce a strata at any time containing oil. ■', • Mr. J. D. Henry, oil expert, London, has completed his second series of investigations in the Taranaki district, and last night left New Plymouth for Auckland. He has booked on the Macedonia for London. Before. leaving he told a reporter that the prospects, at the'field were distinctly encouraging,, and .he hoped that before leaving Australia oil would be struck in No. 5 well. During his stay of two weeks Mr. Henry received many letters and telegrams wishing him success in his work on behalf of the oil industry of the Do» minion. Mr. O'Dowda, formerly of New Plymouth, telegraphed to Mr. Henry yesterday that the well he was drilling in i the Gisborne field was making most satisfactory progress.
