A laborers' strike led to a sympathetic strikd of all trades in the Evora district and a general strike in Lisbon. . DESPERATE STRIKERS. AUTHORITIEgtAKE PROMPT . ' MEASURES. BUSINESS PARALYSED. Received 30, 11 p.m. Lisbon, January 30. When the strike began a band of anarchists took possession of the trades unionist headquarters in Lisbon and incited strikers to assassination and pillage. The troops thereupon surrounded the headquarters, forbidding entry. ffhe newspapers are not appearing, and shops and theatres are closed. {The Government has taken measures toi prevent 'a bread famine. Soldiery are protecting gas and electricity plants. . There were two bomb explosions. Tile strikers wrecked the tram cars. • Shipping on the Tagus is paralysed.
