A FURIOUS POPULACE
STIRRING TIMES .IN 'ECUADOR. REVOLUTIONARIES LYNCHED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 30, II p.m. Quito, January 29. Five revolutionary generals, including Alfare, arrived at Quito on Sunday and were immediately imprisoned. When the populace learned of their arrival a mob of five thousand attacked the guards, who fired a volley, killing several. The mob tore down a portion of the walls of the gaol, dragged out the generals from their cells and killed them, along with other prisoners supporting the revolutionaries. Their bodies were dragged through the streets to the San Diego cemetery, where they were burnt. The fury of the populace was due to the tremendous losses of both armies in the battle of Gaguach on January 16.
