THE LITHGOW DISPUTE. By Cable—Priss Association—Copyright Sydney, January 24. The Lithgow strikers defence committee, replying to the mediator's comments, stated that they were not actuated by the desire for vengeance in asking for dismissals, bul merely maintaining the principles of unionism.
THE WHARF AGREEMENT. Sydney, January 25. The actual terms of the agreement have not been divulged, but it is understood it will mean that all the late friction on the inter-State wharves will cease and work will proceed with the old swing. The agreement has still to be formally signed and its currency fixed. The men obtained Is Gd an hour in the day and 2s 3d overtime, practically the deep-sea rates, and an eight hours day. • Another point which it is understood has been gained is the total abolition of the employment of permanent hands in discharging cargo from the ship's hold. The hours are also regulated. MORE DEMANDS. Received 25, 8.55 p.m. Sydney, January 25. Work on inter-State vessels is in full s.ving. Trouble, however, has arisen on the coastal wharves. The men demanded the rates conceded to the inter-State men. The employers temporarily conceded them, pending a conference on Thursday. " • , The deep-sea men threaten trouble. At present they received half a crown an hour while working "smoke-ohs" and' holidays. They are asking for interState pay, which means a rating of 3s. WESTRALIAN RAILWAY WORKERS. Received 26, 1 a.m. I Perth, January 25. The railway engineers' strive is unsettled. The navvies on the railway re-grading works struck, demanding 10s a day. BRISBANE TRAMWAYS. i Brisbane, January 25. i Brisbane strike matters are quiet. ] The Tramway Company is engaging out- ] side hands, who are carefully trained before they start. The manager states that he is securing as many as he requires, and the normal service will be resumed as the men qualify themselves. The men fined for disorderly conduct in the early stages of the trouble are taking steps to test the legality of the company's action in* penalising employees belonging to a registered association.

Mr. Ben Turner, presiding at the annual conference of the Labor Party at Birmingham, said the upheaval of labor in the world was joyous to behold. * ' The party's policy included a bargain with the Irish regarding the Osborne judgment. They would give Home Rule in exchange for ,free rule for the trade unions. Other reforms would be votes for all women, free education from the primary schools to' the university, eight hours a day and no night Work in facj tories, and municipal coal supplies.
