A chaTge of manslaughter against a ' motor-car driver named Rhodes Battye was heard in the Police Court to-dav The case aroge out of the death of John Alexander McConnell on December 19. McConnell died after receiving injuries resulting from the collision with a tram pole by the motor-car, in which he was a passenger, and which Battye was driv- - mg. Ac«sed pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial. Bail 'in one surety of £IOO was allowed.
