The January wool sales opened with an aggregate catalogue of 17,466 bales, competition was keen for all fine wools, which were generally one farthing per pound better than similar wools at the December sales, but coarser wools were slightly easier. The highest price realised was for a choice fine lot of halfbred Southdown, 12y 2 d. L. A. NOLAN & CO.'S REPORT. L. A. Nolan and Co. report for the week ending January 10: Poultry.—On Saturday we had a good average entry, which found keen competition. We quote: —Hens (fat), to 2s 7d, ordinary Is to Is lOd, cockerels (fat) 2s 4d to 2s 6d, ordinary Is 5d to Is lid, roosters Is to 2s, ducks 2s, ducklings 9d to Is sd, chickens 6d to 10d, turkey hens 4s 3d. In the mart a large quantity of useful household furniture and sundries were disposed of. Fruit.—During the week large consignments have come to hand, sales having been held daily. The market is firm and all lines offering have realised satisfactory priees. We quote: Peaches. WEBSTER BROS.' REPORT. We held our first sale for the new year in the mart on Saturday last, when we had a good entry of poultry of all classes. Though the Christmas season is over prices were well maintained as under:—Hens (old) Is 5d to Is 9d, young and laying 2s to 2s 6d, pullets Is 10d to ) 3s Id, young ,1s 2d to Is 6d, cockerels (fat)- Is 8d to 2s 6d, young B%d to Is, ducks Is od to Is 7d, hen and chicks 3s 6d, trio brown Leghorns 5s 6d. The usual line of auction sundries realised satisfactory prices. iFruit—During the week we have handled about 800 cases of fruit from Auckland, Nelson and Hawke's Bay. On account of the large quantities coming forward prices have been a shade easier. We quote: Bananas (ripe) 2y 4 d to 2y 2 d, apples 16s 6d to 18s.
