JANE DOUGLAS WRECKED.

CREW ALL SAFE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Yesterday. The Holdtika-owned »teaui«i, uiuie Douglas, commanded by Captain Vendors, was wrecked at 1 a.m. on Saddle Rock, on D'Urville Island. The crew are safe and are being brought via the French Pass in a launch. They should arrive in Nelson to-night by the Pateena. No further particulars are available. Later. , The Jane Douglas was going along the passage between Stephens and D'Urville Islands when she struck the Saddle Rock' end on. The crew managed to escape, Jbut nothing was saved, as the vessel sank in five minutes. The Jane Douglas was owned by Keech and Malloy, Kumara, and was uninsured- The crew w v ere as follows: Captain Vendore, mate, Ingram; lengi- i neer, ;G. M. Brown; cook, Brooker; firemen, Henchon and Youngyiamp-trimmer, Woolf; sailors, Peippo and Thomson. It| took the crew four hours to reach Port Hardy. CHEW IN NELSON. Nelson, Last Night. The crew of the Jane Douglas is being brought to Nelson by the Patcena, arriving early to-morrow morning. In the meantime no further details of the wreck are obtainable.

The s.s, Jane Douglas was well known in and about Lyttelton. She was an iron vessel of about 70 tons register, and was built in Dunedin about thirty years ago. She was first engaged in the Wel-lington-Foxton trade, and some years,afterwards was taken over by Messrs., Cuff ond Graham, of Christchurch. This firm ran her on the Banks Peninsula trade, being then in charge of Captain'Whitby.) Captain Murray was his successor, and it was in the late nineties the vessel was taken over by Messrs. Pitcaithly and Co., who replaced her with the s.s. Cygnet. She was then sold to Mr. H. Michel, of Hokitika, and was engaged until recently in the Wellington-Hokitika-Greymouth service. From Mr. Michel the Jane Douglas passed" into the hands of her present owners.
