THE HOLIDAYS

On Saturday the sky was> clear and the sun shone brightly, and there was no wind. In the evening the streets were thronged With visitors apd residents, and business people did a good trade. To-day the fine weather continued, a slight breeze cooling the air. Wellingten, Last Night. New Year's Day passed off quietly in Wellington. There was no rain, but a strong wind blew which made things generally unpleasant. The principal events of interest in the city were the annual bowling tournament of the Wellington Centre, and an interprovincial cricket match between Wellington and Canterbury. . The Union Company's steamer Maori took 1500 excursionists to Picton.
