WORK AND WAGES.
STILL DISSATISFIED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the Tramways Union, called at the instance of a section of (lie members who are dissatisfied with the action of the executive in declaring the strike off, was held yesterday. The executive persuaded the men that the action of consenting to postpone the threatened strike till after the City Council meeting on Thursday was the wisest course open in the circumstances.
The union endorsed the action of the Auckland tramwaymen.
WELLINGTON FERRIES TROUBLE. Wellington, Last Night. The harbor ferry employees did not carry out their implied intention of ceasing work to-day unless granted increased wages. It is understood they are avaitly the arrival in Wellington of Mr. Semple, of the Federation of Laibor, when eome development may arise. Meanwhile the company has promised to consider the men's demands as soon as a full meeting of directors can be held. A DISPUTE SETTLED. Dunedin, Sunday. The wages dispute at Port Chalmers between the engineers and the U.S.S. Co. was amicably settled oil Saturday. The Mayor of Port Chalmers (Mr. Platts) acted as arbitrator. The meeting was representative of both parties. The terms of the settlement are said to be satisfactory to both parties. The engineers, who have been out'of work for a week in consequence of the dispute, _wijl _res.ume their duties, on Wednesday.
