Won by a foot. Time., 10 2-ssec. 880 Yards Championship. —Flowets 1, Grinton 2, Morries 3. Won by three yards. Time, 2min 6 2-ssec. MASTBRTON CALEDONIAN MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. About five thousand people were present at the Caledonian sports in the public park to-day. The Caledonian Handicap was won by R. Proebsted, of Petone. In the 100 yards Amateur Handicap, A. House, of Petone, defeated R. Opie, the winner's time toeing lOsec. SPORTS AT TIMARU. Timaru, Last Night. The very fine morning encouraged crowds to come to town for the holidays. Consequently there was a large attendance at the Caledonian sports and Caroi line Bay was thronged. Unfortunately | light rain came on»at 3,30 and continuing i for a while started people for shelter, j The principal event at the' sports'to-day l was the 130 yards Sheffield Handicap, of £BO, nine heats in all. This was won by V. Asliworth (14y z yds) from W. C. Taylor (16yds). The result was a surprise, as Ashworth's previous i unces gave no hint that he possessed j such a turn of speed. A. A. Taylor and A. Trembath were started for the meeting, but the former missed the boat at Sydney, and Trembath ran unplaced in two events. P. O'Shea was the chief winner in the cycling events. M. G. McGabe, in an exhibition throw, threw ' a 221bs hammer 92ft 9in., after winning I the event with less.
