RIFLE SHOOTING
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Rifle Association's first annual meeting opened at Trentham to-day. There was a representative gathering, competitors coming from Ohristchurch, Nelson, Wanganui, Hastings and Taumarunui. A fishtail wind prevailed throughout the day, causing a good deal of trouble to the marksmen. Gunner E. Ballinger, No. 9 Garrison Artillery (Territorials) and ex- New Zealand champion, J. W. Milroy (Nelson), both shot well, the first named l making 48 out of 50 at 300, and 40 out of 50 at 500. At matches at 300, 500 and GOO yards, Ballinger and Milroy made the same aggregate (138); and in the shoot-off to decide the winner of the trophies, Milroy won. He receives Walker and Hall's trophy, and Ballinger the Licensed Victualler Association's trophy. The conditions prescribed that the httcr could not be held by a man residing outside of the Wellington district. The meeting concludes to-morrow.
