GOES BANKRUPT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. John Pearce, who since a recent breach of promise case ha-s 'been known as "the man with the leaky heart," appeared in the role of bankrupt at a meeting of creditors. He stated that his liabilities were £3lB 12s sd, and his assets £2O 4s 7d. As the results of the action for breach of promise of marriage, brought by Miss Dinan, the court awarded £270 damages and costs £4S 12s .Id. This amount was still owing, and .Miss Dinan was his only creditor. He had oli'ered Miss Dinan £l.jO in settlement of the court award, but she had declined to accept it. The bankrupt was closely questioned as to a certain deed of trust in which he held nil interest with other members of his family, and the assignee agreed at the creditors' request to put in a claim for one-third of the trust property, so that the claim might be contested in the Supreme Court.
