Mr. Rockefeller denies the charges made by Merritt Bros, regarding the Mesaba Mines, and submits a paper signed by his accusers admitting the baselessness of the charges. THE CANADIAN NAVY. Ottawa, November 24. Mr. F. D. Monk, Minister for Public Works, declares that the attacks by Sir Wilfrid Laurier on him are without foundation, as he is fully in accord with Sir F. Borden's naval policy. The French-Canadians are loyal subjects of the King, and intend to accept the verdict of the people of Canada on tho question.
SMUGGLED CHINESE. New York, November 24. A large Chinese smuggling plot has been discovered at Chicago, where 20 men are being charged with bringing Chinese wholesale into the United States. Arrests have also been made at New York and Detroit. The Chinese first entered Canada; then the syndicate smuggled them over the frontier, hidden in freight cars. Other arrests are planned.
