THE AVON SEAT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. G. W. Russell lias been nominated for Avon. SIR JOHN FINDLAY, K.C. Wellington, Last Night. Sir John Fimllay has resigned his seat in the Legislative Council. MR. MASSEY AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. Two meetings of the electors of Waitemata were convened by Mr. Massey this evening. At Birkenhead he addressed over iloO, and in the course of his speech, said that while it was true that there had' been factors in Canada which did not occur in New Zealand, the lesson of the defeat of the Lauricr Government was that the people could unmake at poll's what they had made, and he was confident that the lesson would ibe very forcibly impressed lipon the Ward Government next month. He received a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting at Birkenhead was attended by'about 200 persons, who greeted Mr. Massey with prolonged applause and cheers. At this meeting also the Leader of the Opposition received a vote of thanks.

ME. MALCOLM'S CRITICISM. Bulclutha, Last Night. Mr. Malcolm, candidate for Clutlui, addressed a large meeting to-night and received an. attentive hearing. He criticised the Government's action in regard to the land question, ami regretted there was no reserve fund in connection with the land ifor- settlement scheme. He denied that the Opposition wished to sell endowments and deplored the breaking of promises by the Government, mentioning the requirement of a ferry service, the expenditure of a quarter of a million pounds \ year for four years for roads and bridges, and the introduction of a Local Government Bill. He believed the public of New Zealand wwe had over the Dreadnought business. Mr. Malcolm received an unanimous vote of thanks and continued oorrfidence.
