THE VICTORIAN ELECTIONS. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, November 17. The voting was heavy. Women were exercising the franchise for the first time, and preferential voting was also introduced. Nine Ministerialists were returned unopposed, and in four constituencies the contest is between Liberals only. The counting is incomplete, but the present figures show that Labor has lost one, and probably two, seats, without gaining any. The only Ministerialist endangered is Sir Henry Weedon, who may be displaced by an Independent. MINISTERIALISTS RETURNED. Received IS, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, November 17. The latest election figures indicate the new House will be composed of 44 Ministerialists, 19 Labor, and two Independents. Ministerialists are jubilant. THE LITHGOW STRIKE. Sydney, November 17. Since the presentation of Mr. Paul's report on Hoskins' iron foundry members ' the Opposition have repeatedly at- '.-. ked it. Mr. Holman, in the Assembly, ' tted that it was incomprehensible to him that they should so exercise themselves in the attempt to show that the enquiry was not intended to throw light on the manner in which the Government's requirements were being supplied. He created disorder by asking what interest the Opposition members had in the matter. THE SAVINGS BANKS. Sydney, November 17. In reply to Mr. Fisher's suggestion, that ultimately there would be only one savings bank, Mr. McGowen declared that the State banks would go on whatever happened. NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Received 17, 11 p.m. Sydney, November 17. In the Assembly Mr. Wade's amendment for reducing the first item on the Estimates, with a view to testing the feeling of the House on the Government's taxation proposals, was negatived by 31 to 21.
