SCHOOLS AND ELECTIONS.
■A CHAIRMAN'S PROTEST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Feilding, Thursday. The objection of the Wanganui Education Board to the use of so many schools for polling booths lias reached another stage. The Chief Electoral Officer states that 1,10 schools and 100 teachers in the Wanganui education district are required for the elections. Of these 40 schools and 25 teachers are required in the Oroua electorate alone, where there arc only five other places engaged as polling booths. Mr. Mansfield insists on the use of the schools, and the board's chairman (Mr. F. Pirani) is prepared to resist any attempt to use the schools where other buildings are available, and specifies fifteen places in the Oroua electorate where, to his knowledge, such is the case. He also points out that they think teachers' services are available without the consent of the board, which is not likely to lie given where the schools can be kept open even in temporary buildings. The probabilities point to interesting developments unless a compromise can be arranged.
