HIGH SCHOOL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the High School Board was held in the secretary's office yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. N. K. MaeDiarmid (in the chair), E. Dockrill, D. Hutchen, H. Eyre-Kenny, and Dr. I'ookes. An apology | was received from Mr. M. Fraser for ab-i sence through ill-health. TECHNICAL COLLEGE. Mr. W. A. Ballantyne, director of the New Plymouth Technical College, wrote pointing out that several of the classes had this year been carried on at a loss, and asking if the board would again assist by making a further grant this year. It was pointed out that the High] School scholars attended the Technical i College for woodwork, cookery and dressmaking classes, i The same grant as last year's ( £.30) will be made. Mr. F. W. Sandford, woodwork instrucor, forwarded a subscription list in aid if the installation of motor, shafting, tc, in the Technical College workroom. Any donations, he pointed out, | would bear a £ for £ subsidy from the! Department. > The board will make a donation of £2 for the purpose. BOARDING ACCOMMODATION.
Mr. Hutchen reported that the committee . appointed to consider the question of boarding accommodation had, subject to the approval of the board, arranged with the Bank of New Zealand to advance £BOO for additions to the headmaster's residence to provide boarding accommodation for pupils. The committee? recommended that the additions be made at once in accordance with the plans submitted by the board's architect.'. The chairman pointed out that while twenty free places had been gainsd by pupils at .the school .last year, twentysix had been gained this year. A letter was received from Hit, Borough Council asking if the board had removed all obstructions from llendrie street. — The chairman stated that this had been done, and,the board'.s section fenced. Authority wss, given to fence along Hobson street.
