BRASS BAND CONTEST.
DIFFICULTY WITH THE ASSOC TATION. Some months ago, during June last, Mr. W. H. Southam wrote to the secretary of the. North Island Brass Band Association, asking for permission to hold a brass band contest in Janvjary next in the Recreation Sports Ground, promoted by the committee in charge of that ground. A reply has now been received as follows: >
With reference to your application for a permit to hold a contest in Xcw Plymouth under the auspices of the North Island Brass Band Association. After due consideration by the executive they have decided that it is impossible for to grant any* further applications, seeing that we havo already granted 1 the request fftin the Gisborne contest people to hold the annual competitions there, and while it may be stated that your contest would not interfere with them, you can quite understand that if my executive were to grant sueh a permission it is natural that the Gisborne people would feel sore about the matter. Furthermore, our North Island Brass Band Association's contests now make due provision for both first and second-class bands. This was pointed out very strongly by some of the members of the executive, and it is quite natural that some of the bands who attended your contest could not possibly attend the Gisborne contest as well, I' am extremely sorry that the executive cannot see their way to grant your request, but I have no doubt you will' quite understand the circumstances if you reflect on the matter.
A 'further effort will he made to obtain the permit.
