SALE OF SHOW STOCK.

The auctioners wish to draw particular attention to the sale of pedigree Holsteins which they are holding on Friday, November 3, at the Show Grounds, Palmerston North With the expansion of the dairy industry and the high values placed on land suitable for dairying, those engaged in the industry are forced to look about to ascertain ways and means of • increasing their outputs to enable them to carry on profitably with 'the still higher rates of land looming in front of them. The few cow-testing associations jvhich have of recent years been brought into existence have proved conclusively that there is great room for improvement in our dairy herds, and for the purpose of bringing about this improvement no dairy breed of cattle has of late come so prominently before the public as the llolstein-Friesian. With tremendous capacity for producing great quantities of milk, they are now also combining the world's championships for producing butter-fat. It is also only of late years that prizes have been placed on the schedules of most of our shows, and the response of exhibitors of these fine cattle has been phenomenal. At the Manawatu A. & P. Show, for instance, within the last two or three years the number of exhibits of this breed lias increased more than in any other section of cattle, and at the forthcoming show there will be a great entry. Opportunity of this gathering has been seized by several well-known breed- ■ ers, to submit to auction a number of I Holstein-Friesians.

| Messrs. Dalgety & Co., Ltd., have had | placed in their hands by the AgriculI tural Department of Wereroa, nine pcdi- | gree bulls (eight yearlings and one two-year-old) to sell on Friday, the third day of the show, November 3, at 10 a.m. These animals are' by such wellknown bulls as Kruger 11., Sir de Kol Inka Pieterje and Von Tramp, from very high producing dams, including the great cow Manola. who last year gave some £3O for butter fat, without takiil" into account her calf and the enormous amount of milk (15,2171b). This great record promises to be handsomely beaten by still another cow in the herd. Needless to say these young bulls have been well "done," and will be placed oil the. market in the best of conditions, and will be sold absolutely without reserve. Another well-known breeder, Mr. W. I. Lovelock, of Palmerston, has favored the same firm with instructions to submit not only six yearling bulls but also ■live yearling heifers. There lias been great difficulty in securing females of the breed of any kind, and doubtless the opportunity to obtain, pedigree females will be largely availed of. Mr. Lovelock has been breeding Holsteins for a great number of years, and his stock are now well known all over the Dominion, especially through the fame of his champion cow, Lady of Cliffside. ' j In addition to the consignment men- ] tioned, the champion bull, Clifl'side Lad-' die, will also be submitted. This bull' has quite a string of championships to l lus credit, obtained in all the leadin" shows of the North Island. His stock' aie turning out exceptional animals, and a number of them are included in the j sale. Mr. A. J. Callichan, of Tiakitahuna, another Holstein enthusiast, also has three bulls and a heifer to put up. Among these animals are two very highly bred bulls, Boss (Butter Bov and Sir de Kol of llatakanap, with record of nnlk and butter behind them that should satisfy the most fastidious. Full particulars of breeding of any or all of the animals will be posted to anyono desirous of the information, and tabulated pedigrees will be produced at the sale. All the animals to be submotted are registered in the New Zealand Holstein-Friesian Herd Book. Note—Hour and date of sale, Friday November 3, Show Grounds, at 10 a.m.'
