I BAYLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ] SPORTS. j The athletic competitions for the' selection of the second Bayly scholar will he contested in the Recreation Sports Ground to-day (Thursday). Candidates from schools throughout Tar-a-naki have nominated, and the competitions promise to be l;een and interesting. The events include long jump, high jump, 100 and 440 yards runs, punt ami drop kick, anil goal kicking. The candidate securing the highest aggregate of marks in the athletic and educational examinations (the latter being"conducted by the Education Department) becomes the Bayly Scholar, entitling him to the Rugby Union medal and £lO per annum, with two years' tuition at a High School. The preliminary heats will be commenced at 11.30 a.m.. after the arrival of the train from the south, and will be i resumed after the luncheon adjourn- ; ment. A small charge of Cd to cover expenses, the balance to augment the fund, will be made, and it is hoped the public will respond in large numbers.
