DISTRICT NEWS.

" i TARURUTANGI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) As showing what a small factory can do if properly managed, the following particulars may be of interest, especially now that all the factories are having their annual meetings, and are comparing results. This company, although only making from .50 to (10 tons per year, always commands the top price. This season's output lias been sold at a higher price than any of the other factories around, beating some of them by a halfpenny per lb. , The .wonderful keeping qualities of the Tarurutangi champion brand is well known all over the Dominion, and is eagerly snapped np. Some two years ago two boxes of this butter went astray, and could not be found until a few weeks ago, when word was received that two boxes of Tarurutangi butter had come to light in the Wellington cool stores, where it had been overlooked. Needless to say, it was opened up and pu.t on the market, and realised top prices after being kept for two years.

Last Year the manager put into a I j number of boxes of butter shipped to * England a letter asking the persons who purchased these particular boxes to' j, kindly write and give their candid opinion of the quality of the butter, and in ' j fevery case most flattering replies were received. Yet again, the merchants' e who bought this butter last season re-1 e eeivKT frbm their principals in England | c highly satisfactory statement as to | T ■•the 1 fine qualities of this choice brand . v •willtout a single fault. Such unsolicited j ( testimonials from experts and consumers f alike should be moat gratifying to the I j ■shareholders and manager of the com-1 j. I pany. _ • h ; There is no doubt the company • has j * been signally fortunate in having an j j | Up-to-date manager. The present man- j ' Sgi?r"(M#. R. The | J company is worked on quite different 1j lines to most factories around. It does not keep back-a large part of each , suppliers' monthly cheque so as to form j bonus' : at'the-end ! of "the sftastlil. but, , • instead', it pays out full every moiith, , aiid the suppliers have the use of their i j hard-earned "money at once, and can ' , turn it over perhaps half a dbzen 'times • j during the year, or they can place it in the' Savings 'bank and draw'interest on it.' ;, The 'ctttnpifßy d'oes > not believe in ' paying income" tax on its hard-earned money, as most of thfe Other factories j are doing. ' . • " • Another thing; this company has done. ] It has --completely Upset the general opin-1 ; ion that large 'factories 'can eorfimanA I 'higher prices for. their output, and that the larger the company the less it costs to make p. lb. Of butter. This company's ■ 'outtpnt 'fl'lvvay« tops the market, And the . • cost to make a lb. of butter is very 1 , much lower -than other companies. One | . .■year it tost 11- : l'('nl.
